Concerning Lack Of Global Authority
I’m only an author; not a politician, billionaire, or… God. In my naivete, I assumed that there are values that are – and more importantly, should be! – holly to everyone.
Take as an example the current war in Ukraine, aren’t you surprised that no one intervened when Russia was taking over Ukrainian nuclear reactors, TWICE? I was stunned. Call me crazy but I always believed that the preservation of inhabitable Earth is an international priority. I believed that protecting our planet from a nuclear disaster is one of those holly values we all share. I stand corrected.
And to stay on the subject of the Russian takeover of the two Ukrainian nuclear power plants, they exposed some shocking facts I wasn’t aware of. It appears that neither United Nations (an in principle noble organization, I always admired) nor the Paris Agreement have any enforcement power. That’s a HUGE problem for every Earthling. We desperately need a global authority WITH enforcement power.
No one country is vested with an intervention authority to act on behalf of the global community. An international organization of many countries could establish a unit vested with the authority to take action to prevent situations that could potentially endanger the survival of the entire planet.
Preventing nuclear disasters BEFORE they happen is not an “environmental” issue, it’s an EXISTENTIAL issue to all inhabitants of the Earth.
While we’re on the subject, shouldn’t there be a global mediation authority? We can’t afford wars anymore. The war in Ukraine is causing immeasurable pain, suffering and losses in Ukraine but not only in Ukraine. Many other countries – albeit in different ways – are impacted as well. And yet, we’re sitting and watching the war unfold. This indicates once again the lack of a global authority. If there was one, the aggressive country’s president and the victimized country’s president could be forced to work out some sort of a peaceful and legally binding solution under the supervision of a global mediation authority that would stop the war. (Of course, the aggressor would be legally and financially liable for any losses and damages caused.)
Incidentally, in my book “Holistic Religion” (don’t panic, it’s not a religious book!) I anticipated the need for a global legislative and executive authority, long time ago: an authority not involved in politics or economy of individual member countries but a peacekeeping, environment-preserving and human rights-protecting force.
Am I really the ONLY one who feels this way?!
